ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (UPI) -- Kevin Gregg struck out Hank Blalock with the tying and winning runs on base in the ninth Thursday, allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to hold off Tampa Bay 3-2.

The Blue Jays halted a three-game losing streak and Brett Cecil (7-2) collected his fifth straight victory with the help of a shaky save from Kevin Gregg.

Toronto held a 3-1 lead going into the ninth and Gregg, who eventually recorded his 15th save, gave up a leadoff homer to Sean Rodriguez. Willy Aybar singled one out later, and after Ben Zobrist popped up for the second out of the inning, Carlos Pena drew a walk.

An extra base hit by Blalock could have won it for the Rays, but he fouled off two pitches and then struck out swinging to end the game.

Alex Gonzalez drove in two Toronto runs with a solo shot in the second and a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Blue Jays went in front for good 2-1 in the second when Adam Lind singled home John Buck.

Cecil gave up a run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings to get the win. He is 5-1 in six road starts this season.

The loss was charged to Wade Davis (5-6), who allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings. He struck out a season-best seven.
