New Satellite for New Skies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SES New Skies said its latest satellite has arrived at the Arianespace spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, for a launch scheduled next month.

The NSS-9 spacecraft, manufactured by Orbital Sciences, is being prepared for a mission onboard an Ariane 5 booster, set for take off on Feb. 12. The satellite will be positioned at the 183-degree East orbital location.

The satellite will offer 44 C-Band transponders, and features three beams that can interconnect on a transponder-by-transponder basis. There is a global beam providing coverage of the entire Earth visible from 183 degrees East, a West beam covering Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, China, Korea and the Pacific Islands, and an East beam providing coverage and connectivity to the U.S., Hawaii and Polynesia.

SES said the NSS-9 satellite will free up the NSS-5 bird, which will be redeployed to a new orbital location and new missions.
