Police charged an Ottawa man in connection with a string of bank robberies in eastern Ontario dating back to last summer.

The Pembroke Police Force arrested the 41-year-old suspect Wednesday in connection with a robbery the day before in the area.

After the arrest, Ontario Provincial Police laid additional charges in connection with robberies that took place in the Chesterville, Merrickville, St. Isodore and Cobden.

All of the bank robberies happened during the afternoon hours, and police charged the man with disguising himself and using an imitation firearm.

The man faces a total of 9 charges, the OPP said.

He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Pembroke.
