SBCA: Stop State Sat Taxes
The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association is promoting its support for House legislation that targets state taxes on satellite TV.
The State Video Tax Fairness Act aims to end what the SBCA called discriminatory state taxes on satellite services. The bill could create a federal prohibition against discrimination in state taxation of video programming distribution services, including IPTV, satellite TV and cable.
In an e-mail sent out Monday, SBCA urged its constituents to visit the Web site www.stopsatellitetax.com in an effort to contact lawmakers about the bill.
"A state satellite tax penalizes satellite TV subscribers for their choice with higher taxes. Satellite TV and cable should compete for subscribers on a level playing field based on what consumers want: Lower prices, higher quality and better service," SBCA said in its e-mail missive.
