SES Reports Financial Numbers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Global satellite operator SES reported financial results for the first nine months of the year Monday, numbers that included a dip in net profit for the period to 338.8 million Euros ($420.9 million U.S.), down from 347 Euros ($431.1 million U.S.) recorded during the same period last year.
SES said reported revenue remained stable at 1.194 billion Euros ($1.483 billion U.S.), compared to 1.196 billion Euros for the same period last year.
Highlights for the period included ongoing successes at SES AMERICOM, which during the third quarter saw the launch of its AMC-21 satellite. Also, SES AMERICOM's IP PRIME platform has signed up more than 60 telcos for its satellite-delivered IPTV service, of which 32 are installed and 22 are commercially operational, the company said.
In Europe, SES Astra's high-def platform continued to expand, with 55 HD channels being broadcast from the service's main orbital positions, up from 42 at the end of June, SES said.
Also, the Astra 1M satellite is scheduled for launch in early November on a Proton launcher from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. ASTRA 1M will provide replacement capacity for the 19.2 degrees East orbital position, SES said
