Pound for pound, AMD provides faster CPUs for a cheaper price than Intel.Other than Intel's newest i7 line, is there any reason to purchase a slower Intel chip that's more expensive over a cheaper, faster AMD processor?
AMD has more ghz per processor but Intel really delivers when it comes to performance. Intel's "slower" processors cost more because they process information faster than other brands do at the same ghz rate. AMD also is a worse quality processor. They are more likely to break than Intel. Don't get me wrong, AMD is not bad, they just are not as good as Intel.P.S.One thing I hate about AMD is that you can't find any technical information on their website about their products. That makes it hard to decide what to buy.
Dunno but I switched to AMD 8 years ago on all my home builds and aint goin back. Havent had one failure, havent had one instance of software incompatibility, etc. I guess they like spending those outrageous prices.
in canada the new phenom 2 cpu have just been released and they give the new i7 a run for there money and beat em with the price to performance ratioat 299 they are a steal and the new i7 cost a lot more and don't offer no performance advantage unless you get the extreme versions of the i7 ( those ones beat the phenom 2 by about 30% in performance but cost moreno am3 mother boards yet but these phenom 2 's will work on a am2 but then you can't use ddr3 (the am3 will support ddr3)so if you want the extra performance then pay about 1000 bucks for the extreme cpu and then another 350 for a decent mother boards and a couple of hundred for ddr3 ram or else try 300 for the amd cpu and maybe 150 for a decent atx mother board and also 50 to 100 bucks for 4gb kit of ddr2 ram and get a very decent compso it is your choice 1650 for about a 20 to 30 % increase in power or 1/3 of that for a amd platformif you factor in the price of the motherboards and ram then the i7 platform will cost you extra (even when the am3 are released they should be cheaper then a intel compatible one)guess they are just suckers if they want to spend the extra money and maybe see a little performance boost then let them as it will help keep the price of a amd product down
I dont know why most people prefer Intel. I used Intel and AMD. I did not find any difference. Both are working good. It is individual choice. Most people say that AMD generates more heat.
