How TO Complete Guide SonySat DSR 4000/6000, SpaceStar 500/700, and the Ultrastar4000

How to Setup Spacestar DVB500/700S,Ultrastar 4000/5000,DSR 4000/6000

1.Connect your Receiver to the serial port on your computer, using a Null Modem RS232 or if your computer does not have a serial port, you'll need a usb to serial converter to connect the Null Modem cable

2.Open the SonySat loader V2 or higher,Under no circumstances use the Azrael or 2k232 loaders to load the SilverSurfer to your receiver - it will damage your receiver.Do NOT load the Juggernaut bin to your SpaceStar DVB 500/700 or SonySat DSR 4000 (and compatible) receiver.

ONLY the SilverSurfer is compatible with this receiver.
3.Select the comport to use.Note=the computer and stb have to be connected before the loader will see the comport

4.Select "Open Firmware" and select the current Unzipped XBIN from where you have it stored.I have a file created only for storing SonySat bins.

5.If you have never loaded a SilverSurfer bin choose "Load with Data", if this is your 2nd or 3rd time using the loader choose "Load". The difference between the two is "Load with Data" will factory default your unit while it loads, and update the built in Satellite List.

6.You will have a scrolling progress bar in the loader. When completed the loader will prompt you to unplug and replug your unit. Do not unplug/replug until directed to by the loader.

7. Connect your receiver to the TV and satellite feeds with the power unplugged. You will Blow a Switch or LNB if you hook up any satellite cables with the power plugged in. .If you see "NOPR" on the front of your receiver after replugging it means your receiver has no setup satellites or channels, using the satellite set up information provided below.

8.I always verify that I have loaded the correct bin by going to Main Menu>Information>OK and the software version will be displayed.
8a.You will also need to verify that autoroll is turned on:Menu>Configuration>Embedded CAS>OK

1.CAS Mode <Built In>

2Autoroll Bell On

3,Autoroll Dish On

4.Autoroll TF On

9. Set Time with Remote Control

1. Press MENU

2. Go to Configuration - Press OK key

3. Set dispay to either 12 hour or 24 hour

4. Set GMT (-06:00 for Central, -05:00 for Eastern)

5. Set Summertime on/off

6. Press Exit key when finished

10. Setup Satellites

1. Press MENU

2. Go to Installation - Press OK key

3. Go to Search Program - Press OK key

4. Go to Satellite Name - Press OK key, then go to Echostar 7 - Press OK key

** SETTINGS Should look like this **

1. LNB Freg. Low set to 11250

2. LNB Freg. High set to 0

3. LNB Power set to Auto

4. LNB 22kHz set to Auto

5 .Diseqc Switch set to 1 (set Echostar6,8 to Diseqc sw2)

6. Positioner set to Disable (if you have a rotor set to Diseqc1.2 or USALS)

7. Program Type set to All

8. Transponder set to any TP that turns bars on right side GREEN,on

Echostar 7,TP 12224 needs to be changed to 12239 for valid level and quality readings and after changing, you have to arrow up or down to effect this change and your indicators should show good level and quality. If not,a dish adjustment may be needed or a sat or switch setting may be incorrect.

** What the bars at bottom right side mean **

Red is OFF

Green is ON

Level means you are connected to the LNB

Quality is your Signal Strength (higher the # the stronger it is)

9. Search set to Auto - Press OK key and it will scan all transponders

set to Manual - press OK key to scan just 1 transponder

10. Sort Channels in Dishnet order after you scan all satellites

1. Press Menu key

2. Go to Edit CH/SAT/TP - Press OK key

3. Go to Edit Tv Programs - Press OK key

4. Press Q key on remote to sort in order

5. Highlight SORT ALL - Press OK key

This will sort most but you will still need to channel edit s/w to move a few channels
or you can move them with your remote

***NOTE***

1. When ever you are asked for password

FACTORY PASSWORD = 0000 (the numbers)

If you change your password REMEMBER IT & write it down

2. Settings for universal LNB for Linear satellites such as 105, 121, and 97

LNB Freg. Low set to 9750

LNB Freg. High set to 10600

3. It is best to do your own channel scan instead of using someone else's channel list,
due to the spot beams for locals on Echostar 6,8 (110w) and Echostar 7 (119w)

How To Manually Change Keys

Note:If we are in a manual key situation for a provider, you will want to turn off the Autoroll Feature for that provider.

How to Manual key entry:
Click Menu> Configuration>Embedded Cas>Edit keys>arrow to the keys you wish to manually input and hit ok-E1&E2=key0 and F1&F2=key1,just follow the instructions, once you click on the keys to change and double check your input, before saving by pressing the EPG button on the remote.

When you make the update click EPG to save then EXIT
How to fix flash errors or revive a non-responsive stb.........

The spacestar has automatic flash error protection.

If you have an error and your receiver won't respond to a reflash you need to do this.......

>>>>>>>>EMERGENCY RELOAD PROCEDURE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

1) Power off your box by unplugging AC(ALWAYS UNPLUG AC before disconnecting and connecting any Satellite cables-This applies to all brands unless your box has a main power switch on the back.Failure to do this will result in a power surge that may blow a switch or lnb)

2) Disconnect the satellite feed, from your box.

3) Connect your null modem serial cable or dongle to the box.

4) Hold the power button down and reconnect the power.

5) If you've done everything correctly, the front of your box should read "UUUUU".

6) In the loader choose the latest SonySat Bin for your receiver (Silversurfer for the DSR 4000/DSR 6000/SpaceStar/Ultrastar), and use LOAD WITH DATA.

7) If all is working correctly you should see 5555 flashing on your receiver, when finished you should see "RRRRR".

8) ONLY when you see "RRRRR" on the units LCD should you unplug/replug.
If you are running a DSR 5000 it will automatically restart for you.

9) This will have effectively factory defaulted your unit. You will have to setup your satellites in the installation menu and rescan.

I thought I'd pass along this experience in case any of you encounter a similar situation.A buddy of mine's box crashed and would not power on.I got it to power up using the emergency reload procedure of holding the power button down and plugging in the AC.I got my uuuu's in the display,BUT when

I tried the "Load With Data" using my usb to serial adapter cable,it wouldn't take.I tried my dongle on the unit and still no go.I was just about to give up and I took it to my PC and used my null modem cable that's plugged into the serial port on that computer and BOOM,it did the trick.

The file loaded and the box was alive, again.I then hooked up my dongle to it and was able to load files with no problem.

I'm no techie,so I can't explain why this worked, other than the hard wired connection somehow jump started the box.Anyway,I thought I'd share this experience.

These boxes are hard to kILL
