How to load any USB file automatically when
"booting up" your Ultra when it has the 4 ----
------------------------------------------
just take the new file like PFTAUSW_080908U.PGM just change the date,, take off the date and put it like this PFTAUSWR.PGM ,,then put it on your usb stick ,turn off your receiver from back switch,,then put your usb stick in receiver turn switch back on,,it will do the rest ,it will put PFTAUSW_080908U.PGM on your receiver automatically ,,when your ultra gets locked up this will work great,,you dont have to use loader any more..check it out below...

A great new feature with the Ultra (since the
080908U file), is the ability to be able to
load up a "boot" file from a USB stick.
(A "boot" file simply means any file that you
want the Ultra to load up when you turn it on
from the back switch when there is a USB stick
inserted).
This should (hopefully) enable anybody to
circumvent the hassles of having to connect
their receiver to their computer with a cable
and use a "Loader program" in order to simply
load a file into their "frozen" (or otherwise
"unresponsive") box.
Now it is simple...
1: Insert your USB stick into your computer and
"open up" the files folder so that you can look
at your various Ultra files on your USB stick.
2: "Right click" on the file that you would like
to be loaded onto your Ultra (it can be either a
factory file or any other ultra "fix" file), and
select Rename from the window that pops up.
3: Rename that file to PFTAUSWR.PGM and make sure
that it saves it properly. (You can do this by
closing your USB window and then opening it back
up to ensure that the new PFTAUSWR.PGM file name
is still there).
4: And, as always, before you remove any USB stick
from your computer, click on the little Icon on
your taskbar (at the lower right of your screen),
and select "Safely Remove Hardware" before you
remove your USB stick.
5: Insert your USB stick into your Ultra (which is
turned off by the back switch).
6: Turn on your Ultra from the back and it will now
automatically look for, and load, any file named
PFTAUSWR.PGM.
(The front display on the receiver will show "uSb",
then "InSt", then "End").
When your menu comes back you can confirm which file
has now been loaded into the Ultra by using your
remote to go to Menu>System Information>Receiver
Information and check to see what file name is listed
beside the Main S/W entry.
It should show the original file name you had changed
to PFTAUSWR.PGM on your USB stick!

Ok NT, does that mean you got it fixed? IF so please post what worked so the next member with this problem will know what to try. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

I think the reason it goes to the four dashes (sometimes) is because the wf can't connect to the server and disconnecting the wf lets it startup, this exact problem was happening all the time during the last outage before the new file came out:)

I had the same problem and got lots of help from the FTA forums. Here is what I did to get my box going:

1. Turned off the ON/OFF switch, disconnected the WF, STB, and antenna from TV and took it in to the comupter room.
2. Connected the STB to PC via null modem cable/USB adapter.
3. Started Loader2 on the PC and configured port setting for USB adapter.
4. Loaded PFTAUSW-Cleaner-U.PGM and clicked "PC>STB"
5. Plugged STB in outlet, turned on ON/OFF switch and program immediately started to load. When it reached 100% (download complete), the STB display flashed "U.S.b" "I.n.S.t" "End" "on"
6. Unplugged STB from outlet.
7. Loaded PFTAUSW-101216U.PGM and clicked "PC>STB"
8. Plugged STB in outlet and program immediately started to load. When it reached 100% (download complete), the STB display flashed "U.S.b" "I.n.S.t" "End" "on"
9. Turned off ON/OFF switch, unplugged STB from outlet, disconnected null modem from STB
10. Reconnected WF and antenna to STB, plugged in STB and turned on ON/OFF switch.
11. STB dislpayed showed "on", hit the menu button on remote and up popped the menu
12. Autoscanned the 110/119 birds and all channels working again!

Hope this helps others with similar problems.
