Step-by-step guide? No guarantees. Proceed at your own risk.Uninstall your current video driver. Reboot. If Windows detects your video chip automatically, it will ask to search for a driver. If you answer yes, you should have your new driver ready at hand or already in the hard drive somewhere. Just point to it. If it works, great! If not, don't despair, yet.You will most likely end up with the generic VGA driver at 640x480 in 16 colors. At least it works. Unzip, unrar, unarj or whatever your new driver if needed. If there are any readme files, read them and follow their instructions. If none, see if you end up with a setup.exe or install.exe and run that. You will have to reboot when that is finished and Windows will now happily recognize and install your new drivers.Without an appropriate setup or install file, see if you have file that ends with .inf which is usually accompanied by a file that ends with .sys. On Control Panel, start Add Hardware. Follow through until you reach the part where you get to install the driver yourself and point to where you have the .inf file. Windows does a lot of searching to auto detect the hardware so it's hard for me to simulate this without actually having to install something. You will eventually get the chance to use the driver you downloaded, just be patient. If I remember it right, it says "Choose driver myself." or something to that effect. If the driver is appropriate for the hardware, it should work by now or after a reboot. To be safe, reboot twice. If Windows complains you are using the wrong driver, but you are sure it is the right one, use it anyway. If the driver is wrong, you only go back to VGA mode if you indeed used another video driver. If you used a driver for something else, like a motherboard, you would be messing things up that would likely end in a total reformatting of your hard drive. If the driver did not work, it would be time again to search for another driver. When searching for the right driver, be accurate down to the last digit. If you still haven't done so, try searching driverguide.com.
