DIRECTV Takes Control of Satellite
Boeing said DIRECTV has taken on-orbit delivery of the DIRECTV 11 satellite.
Sea Launch launched DIRECTV 11 in March on a Zenit-3SL rocket. Boeing, which built the satellite, is a 40 percent partner in Sea Launch.
The spacecraft will transmit additional national high-def signals for the satellite TV provider, helping the company expand its HD platform to up to 150 national channels and local HD channels in more than 100 markets by fall.
DIRECTV 11 is the fourth Ka-band Boeing 702 satellite built for the small dish company.
