:p I wanted to share an experience that happened to me a few minutes ago to see what you guys think of it. What would be the cause?

Believe it or not, I set my STB to ch498 PLBYE (definetly N3 now) display showed "scrambled channel" as expected. While on CH498 I was scrolling threw the EPG and stopped at CH239. I pressed the OK button to switch to CH239 and the box froze for probably 5 seconds (happens occasionally). I started to walk over to flip the switch on the back to reset and to my surprise for a 3-4 second interval the PLBYE showed unscrambled video & Audio. Then the box switched to CH239 as i had directed it.

I mean it literally de-scrambled both audio and video for 3-4 seconds with no artifacts in the video or garbling in the audio.

I attempted to recreate the conditions, trying to get the box to freeze again on that channel with no luck.

It happened at approximately 130am EST.

My only guess would be DN switched N2 Sys back on for a second on that channel which i would see no purpose on there end. Or they had some sort of glitch. Or N2 isn't much different from N3.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this happening?

My set up is Pan2700. Latest bin.
110 & 119
2- 18" dishes with a sw21

This is the first I hear of this but thanks for letting us know...will check it out when I get a chance....

Yes it was very odd. My pan2700 will sometimes freeze/lock up if you scroll threw the EPG fast and sometimes for no apparent reason. Ive read other people experiencing the lagging lock up occasionally, but nothing like the descrambling right before it switched the channel.

Even if i remove my SW21 and just have one dish connected directly to the STB i will get the lagging lockup occasionally.

I just wonder what's the meaning of it, if anything at all?

Is it possible that by chance i witnessed some glitch where the encryption was turned off for a split second on DNs part?

Or is it that N3 isn't entirely different from N2 and the software in the box decoded it for a second?

I have read on another site that N3 is N2 with some additional encoding. Analogy used in the article was "Its like a pita sandwich - N2 is the filling, and the N3 is the wrap."

Either way, i hope some of you will test this and try to get it to happen to you too.
