ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—Clayton Kershaw(notes) was pulled 2 1/2 weeks ago after giving up three runs and throwing 83 pitches in his worst outing of the season.
On Sunday, he shut down a potent Los Angeles Angels lineup that leads the league in batting.
Kershaw pitched seven shutout innings, James Loney(notes) hit a two-run homer that was upheld by video review and the Dodgers beat the Angels 5-3 on Sunday night to take two of three in the Freeway Series.
“I thought he was terrific. That’s a huge game,” Dodgers manager Joe Torre said of Kershaw. “Two games ago, it was the worst game this year and the last two have been really, very good. He used a lot of offspeed today. I thought he mixed it up really well. This ballclub is tough to not get good swings, but he did a good job.”
Juan Pierre(notes) had a pair of RBI doubles, Casey Blake(notes) hit an RBI single and the Dodgers had nine hits off Angels starter John Lackey(notes).
