Satellite : EchoStar Europe wins CSI award for new SlingLoaded
21.09.09
EchoStar Europe has won the 'Best Customer Premises Equipment' award at Cable and Satellite International (CSI) magazine's annual award ceremony, held at IBC last week in Amsterdam, for its new SlingLoaded 900 series HD digital video recorder.
The new model was selected from a shortlist of four other candidates, and features place-shifting technology from Sling Media, enabling users to take their TV content and place-shift it securely, using a one-to-one client, to other devices inside or outside the home, including mobile phones, portable media players (PMP) and laptop computers. The platform is being launched in satellite configuration by DISH Network in the US, but can be configured for hybrid signal reception by satellite, cable and terrestrial operators, with IBC 2009 marking to product's debut for the European market.
“We strongly believe the market is looking for new solutions to support the churn-busting nature of digital video recording," said Rick Smith, VP of Sales and Marketing at EchoStar Europe. "The DVR has so far met consumers’ need for convenience; however, we feel that the SlingLoaded element takes convenience to another level. Consumers’ habits are changing with more and more people embracing an on-the-go lifestyle. With this new platform, we can enable users to take their content and display it on other devices that they own, securely, both inside and outside the home”.
EchoStar also launched the SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone application in 16 countries across Europe, enabling users to watch TV and control their DVR using their iPhone or iPod Touch.
