[Confused!] Under what situations do you need to manually input keys?

I have searched around for a strait answer to this question. I have been wondering for quite a while. Under what situations is it required to enter keys for dn? I have never needed to enter keys. (I thought autoroll defeats this?) New bin equals new key that autorolls the code thus changing the key per mathmatical equation in line with what the network requires for the encryption. Am I mistaken? Thanks for your help.

some receivers the bins don't work with autoroll on ,,,that is the reason for keys......or if your receivers bin take to long to roll then you enter the keyz and walla.....
