When using a RAID 0 array is it necessary for all drives to have the same capacity?

I have a 2TB, 1TB, and 2 750GB 3.5" HDD, if I buy a 4 drive enclosure that supports RAID 0 will it work? As in show up and function on my computer as one 4.5TB drive?I'm not so sure about their other stats like cache size, rpms, etc... would that make a difference too?

Yes it is absolutely essential that all the drives be the same capacity because of how RAID 0 works. However, you can hook up all the drives and have one volume that spans them all, so it shows up as one large drive in Windows Explorer, which seems like what you want :)Hope this helps!

no, it will scale down to 750. dont waste all that space. think of all the pirating gone to waste. pornstars have feelings too..... :p

Yes,to run raid 0 you need identical hard drives.....the best stripe size to use is 64 or 128....if you have a 10mb file 5mb are on one drive and the other 5mb are on the other drive(both drives show as 1 physical drive)....you have better write and read times as far as a lot better seek times.....the only thing with running raid 0 is if you have 1 hdd go bad you lose all the data you had....i run 2 320gig samsung spinpoints in raid 0 and back up my important info once or twice a week.......as long as you do that running raid 0 is not as dangerous as it sounds........Scott
