I bought a lg blu ray burner for my PC. Atleast im pretty sure it is. The suite software it came with allows me to watch blu rays but i cant figure out how to burn a blu ray. it allows me to burn dvd/cd just fine. also if the dvd storage capacity is 4.7gb how come it wont let me add any video files larger than 1gb? Do i need to upgrade the software?

Blu-Ray can't be burned with your LG DVD Writer. Blu-Ray can be burned with Blu-Ray Disc (BD) Writer and the disc to which you are writing must be Blu-Ray disc. For more information refer here -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

WHICH LG did you buy? they make a "burner"...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136181...and a blu-ray "reader"...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136183. The "reader" only "reads" blu-ray but reads/writes CD and DVD.

first of all, copying of copyright materials is illegal. But, if you wanted to experiment, try using DVDFab or AnyDVD to backup your personal copy of any bluray disc. The reason why you can't copy bluray disc is because is it copyright protected and using that softwares will bypass the protection.re:1gb. Are you trying to convert video files to DVD format? this will actually dependent on the number of hours and how high is the quality of your video is gonna be. Some software like Nero can downsize the video automatically so it will fit to a certain disc format.

Total Video Converter works on blu-ray http://www.effectmatrix.com/total-video-converter/guide/convert-burn-HD-video-to-blu-ray.htm

Maybe the blu-ray burner you purchased is not so advanced to allow you to rip your blu-ray DVD. Some DVD adopts different encryption style, so it won't allow to be ripped. But I used to resort to a smart blu-ray ripper, it can help me to rip any blu-ray DVDs. Maybe you should have a try.
