I need to change the format of my external harddrive so my PS3 can read it. Will doing so corrupt the files on my external harddrive? I have somewhere around 50,000 songs I do not want to lose.
It will not currupt the files, it will erase the files. changing the format of a drive is known as reformatting and is only revvomended when you are comfortable with loosing all the data.
You will want to back it up. Changing your dirve format will totally wipe all it's content. After you done with it than restore your files the way you had it and they should work fine.
