Norton Ghost is hard to beat.http://shop.symantecstore.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&SiteID=symnahho&Locale=en_US&ThemeID=106300&Env=BASE&productID=90124600I usually reinstall everything from scratch (format HDD, install Windows, install drivers, install programs, connect old HDD(USB adapter) and transfer data). If you clone the drive you will also transfer all the registry errors and other junk that the computer accumulates over time.

If your not afraid of Linux, you can use a live Gparted CD FOR FREE. It is self explanatory just use the copy command. and you can copy partitions of your hard drive. Follow the instructions on their site link in source.Remember, it is FREE!
