smoking viewsat lite

Hi there guys. I have a little problem. I was hooking up my fta box and vcr to the tv and messed up... The cable 'out to tv' I screwed it into the wrong hole, the hole below the lnb in. (the hole 'if out') After about 2 min waiting for the box to boot a tiny puff of smoke came out. I checked the fuse, it is ok. Any ideas of what is wrong or if can be fixed? pls let me know. Hopefully it is fixable...thx

maybe the capacitors are bad the only way you can tell is if you open the box and look at them they should be streight and if one of them is lump on top then is bad ....but if you do not know what your doing then I suggest you take it to a place to get repaird...capacitors are about $4 to $7 dlls depending were you buy them you can try radio shack....

Ok, i just openned it up again and do not see any capasitors that are bent, discolored and or bubbled up. I have never tested anything like this before but am quite able if i learn about it. Is there an easy way to physically test these capacitors or do you know who would be able to test these for me and posibly replce them. I have done some soldering before, do you think with a little guidance a newbie can do this job?

yes a newbie can do it make sure all soldering is conected and if you can't find it you can take it to a viewsat rapair's they'll charge u around $50.00 dlls

you should try disconecting everything first than reconecting and se what it does

Again, thx for the reply. It's a no go. Unplugged everything and reconnected. Checked for burned capasitors-resistors, dont see none. I'm sure one is burned cause the unit smells of burned plastic. I checked the sites you send thx...but if i decide to send the unit off will i have any problems cause i loaded a third party file into the unit.( i guess only if i send it to viewsat directely)

you need to take everything off the receiver before you send it back.......

Hahaha... I guess i am sh** out of luck, i can't turn it on...therefore cant replace the bin wwith factory file. Any suggestions?
