Viewsat problems from Canada

HI:
I am new with the whole satellite technology but am starting to get the hang of it all. After having to bury 2 clone viewsat extremes last year, I have replaced them with a Viewsat Pro and an Ultra. I am getting, in my opinion, good signal strength and quality...both hover around the 85% mark. I am pulling down Dish on Echo 7 and 8/10 and had great success with the Extremes...that is until their demise. With the Ultra, I have installed both the Satellite as well as the Channel listing from the D500 Bin and get a good supply of channels in the listing, however only about 30% are coming in after the autoroll. On the Pro, the D500 files do not work and I am forced to do the scan for available channels. After doing both/either a regular scan and a Blind scan, I only get around 115 channels and most of them are duplicates. Help, What am I doing wrong? I have searched a lot of sites and posts, but still have not found the answer to my problem. Please let me know if anyone has any recommendations or need more information from me to help with my problems. Thanks.

Try this, and let me know how you made out.

Yes I had that trouble when set up my VS PRO. The first thin I had to do is install the switch that came with the receiver. When you do this you need to keep track of what side of the LNB to the port. On the LNB you will see 110 and 119. Make two short wires that will make it threw the LNB arm to the pole. I marked 110 with red tape. This was so I can tell the two apart. I put 110 (red tape) to port 2, then 119 to port 3. Hook up the receiver to the port that it said. OK, I hope your still with me. The next step is to go inside where it is warmer. Time for programing. Press menu. Goto Installation. Then Factory Default and reset the receiver. Then goto Select Satelite. Make sure you select Ecostar7 (119) ; Ecostar8,10 (110). Now press menu. That will bring you back to the Installation menu. Now goto Antenna Setting.

You will see:

Satellite
LNB Frequency
22Khz tone
DiSEqC 1.0
DiSEqC 1.1
Lagacy SW
Motor Type
Tp freq.

OK. Here is the settings for Ecostar8,10 (110). You need to select Ecostar8,10 (110) in the Satellite box. Then make changes like below.

LNB Frequency---11250 OCS-DP
22Khz tone-------On
DiSEqC 1.0-------Port 2
DiSEqC 1.1-------None
Lagacy SW-------None
Motor Type-------Disable
Tp freq.----------12370

The top of next to Antenna Setting should say [Ecostar 8,10 110]

Now onto Ecostar 7 (119)

Satellite-------Ecostar 7
LNB Frequency---11250 OCS-DP
22Khz tone-------On
DiSEqC 1.0-------Port 3
DiSEqC 1.1-------None
Lagacy SW-------None
Motor Type-------Disable
Tp freq.----------12370

Now the top of the screen should say [Ecostar 7 119.0]

From here you need to clear out all your channels. Then you can do a blind scan on each sat.

Good Luck. I love testing the VS PRO. Remember the latest Bin does not give you all the channels. But, there is still alot to watch.

Wow...thanks for the fast response. I have tried both of your recommendations on the VS Ultra. I have received 71 channels on Echo 7 and 203 on Echo8/10. Many of these are duplicates and foreign. Also, some and almost none of the major networks are working. All I get is a black screen with the "autoroll". Is there any other settings that I may be missing? What about dish alignment? I just figured that with a fairly strong signal and quality strength I was in good shape. Before the demise of the Extremes, I was only getting about 35% quality and now am getting 65% or better. In the past I was also able to get about 100 radio stations and now they are not availabe, even though I also did the scan for them. Any other advise would be appreciated.

Hi there, sorry for jumping in here on your disscusion, I also have a vs pro and just bought it so I dont know exactly what to do with it besides what was written above. I have bell right now and would like to use that dish, is it possible or do I have to get a different one?

The Info I gave is for the Viewsat PRO. Not the Ultra. The PRO is a different system. It has different Loaders, Bins and Setup. I had learned the hard hair pulling way. I do not know how to do an Ultra. I know that there are some great people out there to help with the Ultra.
