I have a CS7100 PVR. Casper 7 had posted a very good how to use the Pansat 250 PVR and I was wondering if there is anything out there for the CS7100. Beyond trying to program it to record at the same time very week, which for the life of me I can't figure out, I have a couple of other questions...

1. I am having trouble getting it to record to the external hard drive. I have formatted it through the STB. I've gone through all the menus and manual and I'm either blind or dumb (possibly both).

2. I did the auto scan for satelites. On my PanSat, I get Echo 8.1 and 7. The CS7100 will detect the Echostar 7, but not get any channels from it. I was going to do a manual scan, copying the numbers (Freq., LBN, etc), from my pansat, but they are totally different on the CS. Am I missing something there too?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist, if not, buy some stock in Advil!

External HDD's CONFIRMED To Work With CS7.1K (all other posts will be deleted)
This thread is for cs7.1k users to post a list of external HDD's that work with the box.

Please post make and model number of HDD, number of gb, where it can be purchased (if possible), and how you set it up so others can learn from your experience.

We are testing a brand new box (been available only 2-3 weeks now) so all input from users is appreciated as more sat testers will be trying this box in the future.

If you are having an issue setting up YOUR external HDD, PLEASE start a new thread as this is only for confirmed HDD's that work.

My experience:

I hooked up a Maxtor OneTouch 4, 500 gb external HDD to my 7.1k. Purchased it on sale on Best Buy for $129 yesterday (12-21-07).

Out of the box I hooked the HDD to my laptop. It comes with pre-installed software so I needed to set up the HDD before hooking it up to the sat box.

I installed the software and got a pop-up that new software was available. I downloaded it (software version 4.01.0226), went into settings and set it to "never" power down (see problems with external HDD's going to sleep and not waking correctly in 7k chat forum). Those were only settings and changes I made to the drive.

I then unplugged the HDD from my laptop and plugged it in to the rear usb port on the 7.1k.

Then I went into menu, selected "utilities", then selected "usb", then selected "format".

Formatting took less than a minute.

Started recording right after that.

Have recorded 3 movies of ppv so far, several tv shows, and tested the live tv pause functions.

All is working well, no freezes. This whole set up has been a breeze with the 7.1k.

Peace

HDD Recording Question

In order to tune in 2 channels at once (one for recording, one for watching) you must have a dual tuner device. The Coolsat 7100 is NOT a dual tuner. You should, however, be able to watch a recording and record another at the same time, though I have not tested this to confirm.

Yes, I did the autoscan on the CS7100. It picks up the satellite (Echostar 7), but no channels. I did the manual scan on the Pansat 2700a and it still picks up the Echostar 7 channels. No problems with the Echostar 8.1.

Thanks for the other info you provided. I will start a new thread regarding the HDD for the CS7100. I was able to transfer data to the HDD from the CS7100, but had to do it manually.
