Hello,

My Viewsat Pro stoped recognizing a USB external hard disk. It tells me that I needs to be formated in E2FS or FAT. I've been using it for almost a year and have about 30 programs recorded. I can view its content on my WIN PC using one of available LINUX viewers, it seems like everything is there. My IT guy also performed a scan on it but found nothing. Is there a config file that is corrupt?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you try a factory reset on your reciever? Try that, then install the original factory bin, then load the lastest bin, rescann your sat's and see what happens. I know this is a long proccess, but viesats are known for getting program gltches.

Other members at another site had same issues as you and they did factory reset and loaded the new file and everything was back to normal.....maybe you should try that....

How to setup your Viewsat Receiver:

1)Do a factory Default first before unhooking your receiver,(Always)
2)Flash the latest factory bin for platinum,or for extreme
do this to enable a clean bin flash(everytime) you have a new release
3)Flash the lastest new release for extreme, and for platinum, after 100%/Inst/0000,turn (ON) unit
4)Go to (MENU,Installation,Parental Option,Turn (OFF) all settings, untill compltetely finished with setup.
5)Setup time(GMT) is -5:00 behind Eastern Standard Time in US/CA Summer time(OFF) This is important,or it will not fill up your EPG.

Next is the most important part of setup,if not setup correctly will cause you alot of grief. So please follow closely.

Tip's,and Hint's for a great setup

6)Now your (SATINFO) file is the most important part of setup, you will need to find the best file for the type of dish,or dishes you have.

Basic is (110.0w or EchoStar 8,10) if you have a file on your receiver that has the older version of 6,8 you will need to change this to 8,10,or 8,X.This is because Dishnet has setup the transponders to look for newer version of this file to work at its best.
Basic again is (119.0w or EchoStar 7) and (91.0w or Nimiqs 1,3) so I will explain this setup.

7) Next your receiver is ready to scan with latest bin file, right?.(NO) Next go to Channel Scan in your Menu click on echostar 7 first, scoll down to Edit TP,click (OK) this will Highlight the TPs,now this is very important!
(DELETE 12224 TP),yes thats right (Why?, Because this is a Spot Beam for a different Satellite). Now EXIT and Save.
8) Now again back to Channel Scan to echostar 8,X, again scoll down to Edit TPs,click (OK) again and highlight 12239 and (DELETE it)Again this is a spot beam for echostar 7,and if you leave this to TP's on each other it will scan and Dulpicate channels. Now EXIT and save.
9)Nimiqs 1,3 doesnt really matter sence your scanning a different dish.
10) Now your ready to setup you Antenna Setup.

This show's the setup using DishPro500 LNBFs and a Single DTV LNBF Dish.

Note: (Remember if you do not have a (Dp) on your LNB's then use Legacy for your LNB type in setup).

Satellite.................EchoStar 8,10,or 8,X (110.0w)
LNB Power .............ON
LNB Type...............Standard< if using a dish 500 Dp>but still depends on the LNB type you have.Make sure they match!
LNB Freq................11250< because this is low freq for echostar 8,10>
22KHz....................OFF
TP Freq..................12224< as this is a spot beam for 8,X >
Search option..........All
DiSEqC 1.0..............Port 2
Motor ...................OFF
LegacySW..............None <unless your using a DiESqC Switch 4X1,or a SW2X1,DP34 or DP44 Switch.Use correct settings

Scan F1, and Save.......(Important) donot scan F2,or Blindscan

Satellite..................Echostar7 (119.0w)
LNB power...............ON
LNB Type................OSC-Dp < Or try Standard> depending on what gives you better signal, and quality
LNB Freq.................11250
22KHz.....................OFF < not using that type of SW.
TP Freq...................12239 <Spot beam for this Satellite>
Search option..........All
DiSEqC 1.0..............Port 1
Legacy SW.............None

Scan F1,and Save.....Again Do not scan F2 there is (No) reason too.

Satellite................... Nimiq1,3 91.0w
LNB Power................ON
LNB Type..................OCS-Dp < Or Standard if using a single LNB dish 300,or DTV Single LNBF
LNB Freq..................11250
22KHz......................Off
TP Freq...................12370 < or the best address you can fined for signal, and quality, search the list for best Freq.>
Search option..........All
DiSEqC 1.0..............Port 3 < if using a DIESqC switch >
Legacy SW.............None

F1 to scan and save.

11) Next if you EDIT your Channels,go back to Menu,Options,(turn (OFF) Auto TP.Is will allow you to delelte channels without your receiver freezing up.
12)Edit channels and Save by clicking EXIT.
13) Back to Menu,Options and turn back (ON) Auto TP.
Finished.

If your doing a Standard Scan you should come up with around 800-900 working channels depending on what you perfer.
This will take up to 30-45 minute's to complete but will be worth it.
Remember to place your channel on (150) or Speed Channel,Keys will Roll in 2-3 minutes every time, and EPG will populate 100% on all Channels.

Yes all channel's no freezing up,no jumping back to channel 100 everytime you change channels,no Dulpicate channels,or any of the other crap that your unit used to do.

And as always Enjoy TV.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I assumed I was supposed to restore the system to Factory Defaults?
I did that, reprogrammed and rescanned all satellites but the problem did not go away. Actually it does recognize the drive, it does not recognize the file format. It indicates it as "unknown" and suggest that I use FAT32 or Ext2fs.
Anybody with the same problem?
thanks

Hi,

In the meantime I had to learn how to partition and format Ext2 hard disk, I bought another one, thinking that the old one was broken and still nothing. No matter what I try it will not recognize the disk. It either tells me that I have a wrong format or does not see the disk at all. I tried using it to format the disk, no difference. Also tried formatting it directly from Linux. Is my Viewsat receiver broken?
