Can you revive a really dead box

Hey, I have a Viewsat Ultra and when I put the fixes on via USB from time to time my receiver will freeze on the Do not power off screen. So when I power it off it comes up with "----" on the display. I found the instructions on how to fix this and have done this many times by loading the program via null cable and everything is fine. This last time I loaded the program to bring the box back to life everything looked fine. When I plugged it back in at my TV though, nothing came up on the screen...nothing. I know it is still getting power, but I have no idea if it can be fixed. It must be fixable but any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

yes you can fix that its easy just load the factory file via null modem cable get the file and the loader from our files and loader section and you should be fine just make sure to fallow all instruction ,
so download loader and factory file and extract them (unzip files) open loader and run it select the factory file and hit -- PC to STB-- after a second power off / on your receiver from the back and you will see loader start to load the file leave it to the end , after the receiver will reboot by it self and after you can load the latest update ,, i think that will give you the way to get you machine fix

Yes this is what I used to do everytime I would have the "----" on my box. This last time after I followed these instructions after it finished and I turned it back on there was nothing...not "----" nothing. There is no lights on my box. I tried to load the program via Loader and null cable but now it doesn't recoginize that my box is even hooked up to my computer. This is why I was saying a really dead box. ever have this happen...any suggestions. Thanks again

You might of fried the tsop chip, and if you did you have to send it back to veiwsat for a repair. around $75.00

Domando1069 thanks for the reply. So if I fried my TSOP chip. I will have to send it to viewsat. OK. I am assuomging I can check their webiste for the mailing address. Now somepeople have menationed JTagging. I am not sure what this is but does it sound to you like this would even help? Thanks again. I really appreciate all the support from these sites.

Hello, I need some help please.
I have the same problem and happens to me for the first time, I have a viewsat Ultra, and I download the file PFTAUSW-080211U.PGM, and he freezed on '' do not power off '' and il tooks too long so I power it off my self, after that I have only ''----'' on the display.
I want to know how can I download the factory file to the receiver because I don't have a modem to connect my PC --> Receiver, I used to download only by USB key.

do as darklist has indecated in the above post. where ever you are getting your bins for your system, ask them to download the factory bin to your jump drive then install the file onto your computer them follow darklist's instructions

Ah Domando I'll thank you and Darklist too, I didn't know what means null modem cable, so I made a search in the net, I am fine now.

Bob Smith is your loader working and loading the file? you must doing something wrong if you have ---- light on the box you should get it to fix , let me know what exactly are you doing from A to z.. so i can let you know what you doing wrong..

Darklist, OK. I load the fixes via USB. everynow and again it would freeze on the do not power off screen. When I powered off and back on "----" appeared on the display screen and nothing worked. From this site I found great instruction on to fix this. The exact instruction that are above on this post. I have done this many times b/c it would happen quite frequently. I never had a problem. This last time when it froze I was following the above instructions. After I loaded the fail fix via Null cable and the screen read End ...and the loader was 100% complete, I may (not sure here) have turned off the box by just unplugging it or turning off the main power source.(I know I shouldn't have). I usually turn off the power on the box, then the main power and then unplug the box. So after I powered off and went to plug it back in by my TV.....nothing. Turning the main power source on the abck gives me nothing no "----" nothing.....the screen on the front doesn't light up at all. I know it is getting power b/c I can see a bit of red light on the back when I turn the main power on but that's it. Even if I follow the old steps to hook it up using the null cable now and use the loader, it won't add any files to the box...it is like the cable is not connected to the box. I know the cable and loader work because I added something to a friends last night and it worked fine. Some poeple say I need to JTag some people say send it back to Viewsat for a new TSOP chip. (I have never JTAG'd and don't really know what a TSOP chip is). I just don't want to throw away this box...especially if it can be fixed. Once again thats a lot for everything on this. It is really appreciated.

Soory and by the above instructions I mean .....follwing these:
Install Loader2 on your PC then:
• Connect serial cable (NULL) to PC>STB
• Open up Loader of choice (PVR-Loader 1.1 or Loader2)
• Click on Tool>Configuration>Com port (Default is usualy com 1)
• Click on Open File
• Click on PC>STB (Notice the progression bar in loader)
• Turn the power in the back ON
• Wait for Loader say Completed. Then on box LCD front panel screen say I.N.S.T>END>0000 or until clock count to 0.001

IT IS VERRY IMPORTANT. DO NOT TURN THE POWER OFF TO SOON
• Turn the power OFF in front and power OFF in back
• After downloading the “BIN”, unhook NULL cable from PC>STB
• Connect all the cables to your box/TV
• Turn the power ON in the back and then front

Bob Smith I have the same problem and I am trying to learn more, I need some help from Darklist too, in what sort of cable I need to connect my Vs Ultra to my Pc, the cable you call null modem, could I use a cable with a : (Pc)USB<----> (Receiver) serial port 9 pin female, because in my Pc I don't have a serial port I have only USB, is that can work to make a transfert to my receiver, thanks.
