Viewsat Xtreme Clones Repaired!!!
I am happy to report that yesterday I was successful in repairing 3 Viewsat Xtreme Clone receivers. All are working 100% using the latest DBPSW-070801X.PGM, and all are autorolling perfectly!
What's more, the fix requires no card reader installed or physical modification to the box.
The fix does require that you open the box, move a couple of jumpers, flash a new boot record to the box, move the jumpers back, and load the latest bin.
Here's how!
Disclaimer: While this worked perfectly in my case, I cannot guarantee that it will work for you. There are many revisions and manufacturers of Xtreme clones, and the files and methods used may not be appropriate for every receiver. I accept absolutely no responsibility for your success or failure. But, if your box is already dead from clone kill code, what have you got to lose?
All of the Xtreme Clones that I repaired were purchased about a year ago by my neighbor from a guy on fleabay a couple of months prior to the clone kill code being implemented. Once they were no longer working, he gave them to me. All of these repaired clones had motherboards labeled VS2000 R2.3 in the lower left hand corner of the board. I am not sure what .pgm file killed these boxes or at which software revision they were at when I got them. They were simply dead when I got them.
The first thing you'll need to do to get the box working again is to load a new boot record. This is done with a piece of Chinese software called STC_ISP_V3.5. While the software is in Chinese, there are English instructions included. Following the instructions carefully, you will open the box, move 2 jumpers near the back of the box to the left, load the new boot record called boot1003.hex, and replace the jumpers back in their original position.
Assuming all has gone well, and the boot record was installed properly you "should" have lights indicating that the box is alive and working again. Now, simply install the latest DBPSW-070801X.PGM in the usual manner, wait for it to complete, hook up to tv, check all the installation settings, scan for sats, and you're back in business.
Included in the .zip below are the STC Programmer and English Instructions viewsat_boot_manual.doc, boot1003.hex, the actual boot record you'll need to load, and DBPSW-070801X.PGM that I used in my repairs.
I hope this helps those of you who have dead clones to bring them back to life again. I'm 3 for 3 here, all working for hours, autorolling perfectly!
Good luck!
