Will files get deleted off of an external harddrive if putting it to a new computer?

I have had an external harddrive for my laptop in which I keep my iTunes, as well as movies, pictures, etc. The laptop has died, however, and I have a Dell Netbook that I am using, now. If I hook up the Hard Drive (USB) to the new netbook, will it keep all of the files on it? Also, can I have an iTunes account on my new netbook use the old iTunes files?Thank you.

Your files will remain in tact on your harddrive, given your operating system support the file format of the drive. But you shouldn't worry at all buddy.

Theoretically, nothing should get deleted off of the HDD if you switch it to another PC.However, iTunes is a bitch, so it might recognize that you're using a different PC and attempt to re-sync your ipod.If the drive name of your HDD is different on the new PC than it was on your laptop, it probably won't find the songs and it'll just mess up your library.I do believe you can manually change the drive letter, so you can try it out.No risk of anything getting deleted without your permission though. (unless you mess up bad, which I don't think you will)

1) You should not lose any of your files2) iTunes - You will need to Authorize the new computer (login first) and import all your old music.Dane

Considering external hard drives are made to store files on, it would on make sense that they would remain on the drive now wouldnt it?

No. But you will not be able to use them unless you have installed iTunes on your new 'top. First install iTunes unto your new laptop, then you can use them.Hope that helps,

No the files will not be deleted from your external hard drive. The external hard drive is just like a big USB key, you can use it in lots of different computers and the information will not be lost. And yes you can bring the old i tunes music into your new account. Select file int he top left hand corner of your i tune and select add folder to library. Then just find the folders of the albums on your hard drive and click add. The album of song will then appear in your i tunes.Best of Luck

Can't answer the itunes question, sorry, I avoid itunes like the plague. However plugging your ext hdd into the netbook should not delete any files on it.

you should have no worries cos an external hard drive functions in the same way like a flash no matter where you insert it the information remain in place:the only problem you will face is that if ur Network does not have i tunes program then it might nt recognize the i Tunes files
