did you do some reading to find out more about your unit,,,go to your users guild,, ecrything you need to know should be there,,,

WARNING.....If there is a users guide, its not the book that came with CW800.. Its very vague, it just tells you what the fuctions the box has... It doesn't tell you how to use them... Once you try to up-date the firmware you box is DEAD.... There is NO recovery from this, ... BEWARE....

HAWK

I think this is the first time ur doing this right??????????

we there is a process that does not show in you guide you can find that in the how to install a cw800 straight out of the box... do some surching and reading if you can not find it....then come back ......but at this time all boxes are down you will need a new file to bring it up again.....

Captive Works CW800 PVR S/W Installation Guide
Using Serial Cable

First of all you need following tools to upgrade your new Captive Works CW800 PVR receiver.

1.Captive Works CW800 PVR receiver.
2.Null Modem Serial Cable.
3.Captive Works CW800 PVR Software Loader“CW800SUpgradeV1.02.exe”
4.Latest available Software bin file from the Company Website.

Download all required files and unzip them using winrar or winzip and extract them
in a same folder.

1)Connect your PC and receiver with twisted RS-232C Null modem cable.

2)Plug in the power supply cord of your receiver to the power source and leave
your receiver turned OFF.

3) You can load bin file using two methods “boot” Mod and "Standby" Mod. If you want to load the software using "Standby" Mod go to #4. Standby Mod is recommended method to load bin file because it is faster and safe.

Here how you get into“boot”MOD:Hold power button on the front of the receiver and turn the power ON from the main power switch of the receiver. You will see a word “boot” on the front LCD screen of the receiver.

4)Turn receiver Off from the back and then ON the receiver; Once it has rebooted; now press "POWER" key on front of the receiver panel to bring it to standby, the LED display will display “- - : - -“.

5)Start Loader CW800SUpgradeV1.02.exe
Check if the right COM port is selected. Most of the time COM 1 is default.
Also make sure Download S/W is selected.

6)Press File Icon beside File Box and select the Latest bin file you downloaded from the Company website“CW800V1.XX_date.bin".
Now Press Open or Press Enter key on your keyboard to load file in your loader.

7)Now its time to start loading the software, Press Start button on the loader and the upgrade will begin.

LED screen on your receiver will change to A ####s and then Writing. Finally you will see “–End”.
Congratulations!! Your receiver is upgraded and now you can use all new features available for your receiver.

If you experience any problem during the upgrade start over again.

Thanks for the tips.... But like I said before.. The only thing I can get it to do is come up on "boot".... When turned back off and switched back on "boot" comes up for about 3 sec. and goes out and the led screen is blank... and no mater what botton you push nothing happens... I down load the loader to my computer and use it to load the firmware to the box via the cable provided... The box goes into a count down starting just above 4000 it displays end on the led screen when finished... I turn the box off, disconnect the cable and turn it back on... The word "boot" flashes on the panel then goes out and then the box does nothing... The loader and the firmware, are right from the Captiveworks web site.... I have bee told that this process should put the box back to factory settings.... All I can say is HA!!! What up sets me the most is, this is the secound box and everything responed the same way with the same results... But again thank you for the info...

hawk have u tried to load it with a thumb drive...if not and u are still with the cable try this

load then bin after it end it should say end and on the screen it should say do you want to reboot. say yes then it should turn off then on by itself.........then u turn off again take receiver over and then connect to urr tv. and turn on make sure you hit f1 on the remote and at this time ur box should say H only.. then you enter 0000 then the patch on the screen should say enable...then u arr ready to watch tv.

hope this helps you out...

First let me thank everyone for their help... I finely got back in the box by using a bin (cw800sv1.61_2008_5_5) that a friend sent me... But as for the the H on reboot, yes it's there with to zero next to it.. When I try to alter this number it goes to a channel... Now my next question is... Is there a bin out there that will allow me to unscramble the channels..? If so where would I get it...

bin 1.61 does no longer work how can it be up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all you have to do is enter 4 zero's 0000 then the patch on the screen will say enable then just let the key'z roll and tv should be up...do not try to change it till you see the H after you have press F1, then when it does come up. enter the 4 zero's and leave allone...

I downloaded the CW800SV2.07_2009_01_21_Patch through USB flash dive. The box just froze. All I could get was: "Start Up" which then scrolls to read: "Boot" and after a while it reads: "Error 020" and then the whole thing starts all over again. I tried switching the box off from the back. I unplugged the mains cable. I unhooked the satellite feed cable. I held the power button on the front of the box while turning the power on from the back. But nothing worked and I have "BOOT" staring me in the eyes .. neither the menue button on front of the box or that on the remote works .. In fact nothing works.

Following suggestions from several forum sits; I attempted to download the latest Bin File (v2.07) and Factory Bin file using a RS232serial cable that came with the box, with latest Loader... However, nothing happened and the download meter did not show any progress?

The box continues to show the symptoms I mentioned ibove: "START UP" ... then the letters scrolling and changing to read "BOOT" and then "ERROR 020" and then the whole cycle would restart ALL OVER AGAIN!

Any ideas?

Please help me to bring my frozen box back to life.

Did you try loading it with the usb stick or zip drive...that is the way I load all of my friends receivers......after you load the file via zip drive make sure you click on yes reboot receiver then it should be up if you get the black screen make sure you enter the 3 zeros (000) to enable patch try it with the full file that's in the forum....

The box does not recognize anything and does not re-act to anything I do. I plugged in the USB flash drive, but there is no way to open it; as I cannot access anything neither from the remote nor the menue button on the box.

I do not use a Zip drive and I would think that even if I did, how would I make the box recognize it?

As for the null modem cable, which I tried and did not work on the Loader (I tried all COMs ... although I have only one COM 1 on the PC) .. so maybe I should go ahead and buy a new cable. Or as some forums have suggested that I could use a null modem cable with a USB connection at the other end, and that way plug it into the USB port on the PC and down the factory bin file and then the CW file?????
What do you think

thank for your answer

I load about 30 cw 700 and 800's every week with a zip drive ...once you put it in you hit the usb key on remote and it will open it automaticly....then you go to software and click on the bin that you have extracted....a window will come up and ask you if you want to update you must move the remote right or left arrow till you see yes then it will download the program it's very easy....my 11 yr old help's me update boxes.......
